Turning your Whys into Goals…Not just New Year's Resolutions that vaporize before the bubbles escape the champagne.
I have been reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. In the chapter on Habit 2, "Begin with the end in mind", Covey gives an exercise assignment.
We are instructed to imagine being at our own funeral and to think of what we would want said in the eulogies spoken by our family, friends and co-workers.
What does this have to do with setting goals, you say?
Thinking of what you want people to remember you as, is a good gage of what your principles and values are.
And this, my friends, becomes your life's goals. I like to call them "Global" goals, since this is the big picture.
If you've been honest with yourself about your eulogy and principles, all of your goals…those for each day, those for your week, your month, your year, your next decade…will never vaporize.
The goals you set, even those New Year's Resolutions, will be founded in your principles and you will be more likely to stay committed to them.
So, get to thinking about your eulogy, and write it down. Make it a real commitment.
There are two kinds of People in the World:
Those who watch reality television...
And those who CREATE their own reality.
Everybody knows in order to make more, You must become more.
